For Students and Parents

(Updated Summer 2019) I am currently accepting new students for lessons.

As an active performer and teacher, I believe that experiencing music on any level allows us to experience life and communicate with each other more fully. I am most interested in working together with busy families to help my students be successful and reach their personal musical goals. My teaching begins with musical literacy and developing healthy movement patterns as the foundation of musical success.  I look forward to sharing music with you in a way that is both accessible and fun!

I am a graduate of Western Michigan University where I majored in Classical Piano Perfomance and Jazz Studies (with Dr. Stephen Zegree), while studying composition with C. Curtis-Smith and Richard Adams. I maintain an active performance and composing schedule and love spending time with my wife Jessica and two kids Ty and Clara (ages 10 and 7). Music I have recorded has been featured on NPR’s “A Blog Supreme” and I have performed at both the Portland and Mt. Hood Jazz Festivals (among others).

My students have been winners of various OMTA period festivals and I have coached students in preparation for the MTNA state piano competition.  I have also served as music director for the “Incredible Journey of Jazz” which is the school outreach program of the Portland Jazz Festival.
